OVERCOMING  EMOTIONAL  BLOCKS:  ANGER  AND  FEAR

We all have emotional blocks: some conscious, some hidden deeper in the subconscious.  Psychologically, where these blocks occur depends on how we process the stress which causes them in the first place.  Anger, fear and other emotional knots are also stored physically in the body.  Yoga and meditation are two powerful tools to help free us, and we will apply several such techniques in the workshop.

The workshop will concentrate on:
the relationship between anger and fear.
the physical and psychological processes which lead to emotional blocks.
actually confronting and releasing anger and fear through yoga.

BREATH AND BREATHING

Breath is a direct expression of our personality.  How we breathe reveals everything about us: both the face we present to the world, as well as our innermost secrets.  It shows who we are, who we want to be, as well as our past - and, with it, any stress or trauma we may have accumulated along the way.  Even if we are not aware of it, we carry on our breath the ghosts of the past.  Chronic and acute tension inhibits natural breathing, which, in turn leads to continued and ever higher levels of stress.  Instead of enjoying the breath we were born with, the body becomes suffocated through its own dysfunctional breathing, which in turn leads to ever higher stress levels… Without the help of yoga, this can lead to a potentially never-ending circle.  Conversely, the breath can also be used as a tool to strengthen the body, open the heart centre and progress along the road to enlightenment.

This workshop will concentrate on:

-- the participants’ individual needs in improving their own breathing, both during and outside of class
-- the physiology of natural, stress-reducing breathing versus ‘paradoxical’ breathing
-- the many different breathing techniques used in yoga, including Long Deep Breathing,
-- Breath of Fire and Segmented Breathing
-- how we relate to the breath and its application in meditation

All theory will be put to practice through kriyas of Kundalini Yoga and meditation techniques from several traditions.

MANTRA POWER!

Undeniably, one of the most powerful tools in meditation is mantra.  For beginners, mantra provides a clear focus to prevent the mind from wandering.  With practice, it unlocks a gate to the subconscious mind.  In addition, the vibrations unique to each mantra enliven the subtle body.  This workshop is dedicated to exploring and applying both silent and chanted mantra from various spiritual traditions.

Mantra usually provokes a strong reaction: people either love it or hate it.  If you love it, come along and practise with us!  If you hate it, this is a chance to understand why: to come face to face with your own ego and to step beyond…

JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE HEART

This workshop is dedicated to exploring the many different routes towards opening the heart.  As the saying goes, 'all roads lead to Rome.'  But since every human being is beautifully unique, no single set of directions can ever be the quickest or easiest for everyone.  We must tread our own path, visiting both our weaknesses and strengths along the way.  Emotional blocks may complicate our progress, but, given the right tools, we all possess the strength to succeed in truly living through the heart.

In addition to facing these emotional blocks, the workshop will also offer physical methods and pranayama to open the heart space.  We will also apply meditational techniques using sound and mantra to vibrate and energize the heart.  May we love ourselves and all around us!
